Google SWOT Analysis

Here is my first SWOT strategy analysis (technically a TOWS, I guess) this was done in open office and MS Paint. Please feel free to comment and debate in the comics.

  1. Sorry if this comment shows up multiple times as I thought I had already commented yet I cannot see it on my end.

Good job on this analysis. You were much more detailed than I on the strategies. One question I had for you is how you think Google could implement SaaS?

  2. Jon, I turned on comment moderation to prevent vandalism, obviously not from you guys but I have been trying to promote my blog through the net to get more eyes and feedback and you never know who may find the link.

To answer your question regarding strategy and SaaS, Google Docs is currently a MS Office SaaS and its Gmail client has similar functionality to Outlook, again as a SaaS. Where I think that Google could perhaps try to penetrate the SaaS market further may be with analytical software, like SAS (statistical) or hosting databases for smaller companies and providing a database analytics/interaction suite like SQL Server, or Toad. I know that database hosting and analysis is feasible since Truven does that for my employer, but I think Google may be able to compete here with a B2B SaaS solution that would be paid for, not ad-driven. The data would have to be secure and "black-boxed" even from Google as Google mining other companies' data would probably kill any trust between users and Google.

Anyway, given the power and usefulness of business intelligence, even to small companies, that type of SaaS seems like an opportunity, I am sure there's more SaaS opportunity, but that one jumped out at me.
